December 22 New spaceThis is the last entry of this "old" space. My new one will be in:
Please change the link if my space is on your friends' list. Thank you. Happy Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. December 11 more updates on musicA buddy of mine and me exchanged some of the good music we've found lately, just like the old days when we talked music everytime we met. I almost forgot that "tradition". None of us play music instruments, but we are pour music lovers who love underground (non-mainsteam) music.
He sent me a link of a website which was extremely cool and powerful!!!!!!!!! myspace music, http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=music
the name is quite self-explanatory. Individual artists post their songs as samples in the space. They blog music instead of essays.
Another good friend of mine blogged a music band called "Lady and Bird" in her space. She mentioned the song "Suicide is Painless" in particular. The name attracted me to search the band in myspace music. Found and repeatly listened for a while. Quite good. The music is a little bit decadent, especially for the lyrics, but is the tune I like. Here is the link if you are also curious: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=59172095
I am going to stop putting stuff in this space by the end of the month, and start up a new space that is associated with the new hotmail account. Thanks for reading my blog in the last 16 months. If you haven't added my new hotmail to your msn, my friend, ask me in the old msn, because I will also try to stop using the old msn after Jan.01. A new start for me, a good and happy start. November 29 Music of my tasteI thought, after these years, my taste of music has evolved to some new trends.
A week ago, a woman vocal caught me attention, so I downloaded a lot songs of hers, and crazily in love of her works.
Imogen Heap, as I searched her album in amazon, the Editorial Reviews reads
"Her style, which incorporates layers of multi-tracking, lies somewhere between Sinead O'Connor's banshee howl and Jem's more delicate musings. "
Everything back to square one. Flash back to Grade 12, I was so deeply indulging in Sinead O'Connor's songs and her voice that I could listen to it all day all week. Then from one point 4 years ago, I stopped listening to her music because it was too depressing for me. And now for some reason, I am back to where I was, like traveling back in time. I still love that style of music. November 28 MondaysMonday is the most stressful day in this term.
Besides of 8:30am till 9pm schedule, things like presentations, tests and deadlines always bump into that day.
Yesterday, it was the presentation + debate day.
Yes it is debate i am talking about. When I was in middle and high school, I've never liked debates, never done one, in Mandarin or Cantonese, whatsoever. However, it was a requirement for that Finance course. After hours of research, some practices in mind, I did it quite well in English..... I felt so relieved and happy that I got it over with, and realized that I could be good at negotiations. Ha!
The presentation for the marketing course went ok for as well, though still feeling quite nervous while being put under spotlight. I am hopping to see more improvment in the next two presentations which are coming within a week!! They are both technical engineering presenations, should be much easier than Marketing one. So much for updates. November 18 busy, stress, quarter life crisishalf a year away from graduation.
LOOKing for a job and a master opportunity.
Projects and presentations are lining up to be done.
Just got a midterm paper back. I did poorly.
Tears dropped, Losing self-confidence and self-esteem.
Maybe I am not smart at all. I am so average...
Yet, people around told me that I can do it ...
So what do I wanna do? what do I like to do? Where am I going?
Quarter life crisis.
Graduate study or job?
I need to make up my mind soon.
October 23 S'mores nightOur house had an awesome s'mores night on Sat.
Let me explain what s'mores is, because i didn't have a clue before that.
It is a set a s'mores kits, which contains a s'more maker grill, a rotational table, four small containers comes with oval and retangular shapes, and mashmallow roast forks.
Material: mashmellows, chocolate bar, and Graham crackers.
Step 1: roast mashmellow on top of the grill;
Step 2: Prepare a layer of half a Grahan cracker, place two square of chocolate on top;
Step 3: Once the mashmellow is brown and melt from the inside, put it on top of the chocolate, and place the other half cracker on top and sqeeze the mashmellow. Now it should look like a sandwich.
My first time to play and eat it. Yummie... though it is quite sweet.
Beside the crazy s'mores, we had nachos with a big skillet of homemade sausa...hmm... thx lara!
Quite happy to relax a bit for everyone, just chill and have fun. :) October 10 Mid-autumn & thxgiving longwkendFriday night, the Mid-autume day semi-formal, organzied by CSSA. Very awesome ballroom dance. I was lucky to have a great dancer led me dance all night. I have learnt a few moves, and getting quite good at the end.
Sat nihgt, Thanksgiving turkey dinner in Janet's home. Enjoy her host as usual. Wonderful lady.
Some photos were posted from those two days.
Long week was short, I ended up spending the rest of time studying, but a lot of stuff remained undone. I am so busy everyday that I hardly have time to sleep or a nap. Life is like back to the last year of high school. However, i am enjoying every moment of it. There is always a bright side of life, hanging with friends is all I need. October 01 house party, shopping = non-productive weekendi can't regret anyting.
Party on Friday night. got up at 11 on Sat, went shopping in Yorkdale mall (in toronto) on Sat, came home after 12am...
Sunday... stared at the computer for hours.... movement is extremely slow.
Unfinished homework, readings, handins, and projects are piling. I am panic...and still smiling. 痛苦并快乐着!~
Uploaded some photos right from housemate Kyi's space.
Monday is approaching, i am so scared. September 15 back to schoolI feel quite exciting and great for coming back to school, though I still wanna have fun from time to time. New housemates are friendly and fun to hang out with. I did quite a lot of sports yesterday, including freesbie and basketball, so the muscles around my body are quite sore now. However, I was so happy to play in a basketball game after a long time and totally kicked my friend Mukul's a$$. :P Maybe I haven't done any intense sports for a long time. I decided to join Lisa (a nice housemate of mine) for ultimate freesbie intramural, since her team always need more girls to play... Hopefully I won't be doing too badly in the game, since i am always sucked in a real competition.
There are already lots of projects announced in the class. I will be a project manager of one of the projects. To be honest, I feel like reading more and study ahead this year to gain solid knowledge before I walk out of school. Life is definitely better, compared to the job in Ingersoll. Time to do some reading now. September 08 Sept 4-6 Vancouver6 hours later, I arrived in Vancouver. King (good friend back in Kelowna, and he is studying in Vancouver now), picked me up. He was skinner than b4. He took me to the Chinatown just a few block away for a quick lunch, and then showed me the downtown area, Stanley Park and gas town. I wasn't feeling all the excited while I was reviewing the city. I was probably tired of living in a city of a typical modern look and walking in a big crowd. To me, Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto are of the similar place. Or I might just need to live long enough to experience the differences.
Day 2 in Vancouver, I had lunch with Frank (Ou Yuanfan, a good friend in elementary school) and his wife, just to catch up with each other. After lunch, we visited the beautiful beach just outside of UBC campus, which was surrounded with forest, good houses, and sea. UBC students are definitely very lucky to living in one of the best campus in the world. Despite the short time, Frank showed me Richmond Hill, which is a big area where thousands of Chinese family lives. I saw signs writting in Chinese everywhere. No doubt about Vancouver has the biggest Chinese population outside China.
At night, King showed me Simon Fraser University where he attended school in. SFU is famous for its business program. The campus was essentially composed with a few gigantic buildings which are joint togather as a piece. I was impressed by its computer and libary facility, but not impressed by the depressing grey color and interior design of the buildings.
Day 3, Sept 6, got up at 5am, King saw me off in the airport. The vacation was offically over. Not much mixed feeling about saying goodbye, because I have done it thousands of times, and I know we will be seeing again in the future. Walking away delightly from my friend, I knew McMaster would be embracing me once I set my foot in Hamilton.
Hi ... Bye ... Hi ... Bye ... Take care yo! Sept 1-3 Kelowna, BCHa...here we go, I was finally back to Kelowna after 4 years. Things had been changed quite a bit since then. Basically there are more high-up apartment building and business building, though they are not as high as you would expect, but for a city like Kelowna's size, a slightly tall building is eye-catching for sure.
Jack made a big feast of home-made ribs on Friday night. It was very tasted! However, Jack had to take off on Saturday morning for a month long bike trip from Kelowna to San Diego!!! This will be the biggest bike trip Jack has ever done. I am so proud of him. I anticipate to hear more from Debi later.
Vivi, their new student, biked around Kelowna with me on the weekend, downtown and lake shore in general. Lake was still in shining blue color. Sky was still of clear navy blue. Tons of ppl were still doing all kinds of sport in city park by the beach. I had the exact good feeling when I was cycling along the lake shore, like cruising in a sunny paradise. We visited Diane and Rick at the night before Rick and Jack's big trip. Happy reunion + host's family gathering were quite nice.
Sunday, I went back to Kelly O'Brain which was a cosy Irish pub I liked to go b4, espeically in the occasion of birthday party, because the pub offer up to $18 free food to the birthday person. Main reason was to try the Guinness black beer again. BC Guinness did taste better than the Ontario one. Strange.
Admanda, who was a little kid living in our neighbourhood, came hang out with me. For some reason, that girl was like naturelly boned with me, and always ask me out to play with her. She was very very happy to see me and tried the best to stay with me longer. :P Strange again.
3 days in Kelowna, I have done what I wanted to do, scenary and friends stuff, or just simply lying on the couth in the living room.
Time to say goodbye again, with no sadness, Debi drove me to the greyhound bus station. A bear hug and a simple promise of going back in the future. September 04 Aug 28-31 Jasper-Banff National ParkMonday, Jack drove us from Calgary to a countryside called Leduc on the edge of Edmenton. His friend Matt lives in a nice lodge deep in the country. We had a hard time finding his place under the dim light of the moon. Since we arrived late at night, we only got to chat with the host for a short while. Me and Vivian slept in sleepingbag on the ground that night.
Tuesday, we took off early after a morning coffee and begals with the hosts, and headed towards Jasper National Park. Endless high-rising mountains and river streams were our best companies as our car waiving through the highway. We stopped at some of the best viewpoints and went for hikes in some trails. Iceberg and glacier were among the spectacular sceneries we've seen. The Jasper village was little yet beautiful. The village is composed with a few blocks of gift, clothing, boutiques stores and restarants. We were lucky to find a price-reasonable Bed and Breadfast (B&B) to stay for the night. Most of restaurants there were quite pricy, but we made a good choice to dine in Earls, which offered excellent food with reasonable price. Unfortunately Ontario does not have this restaurant. We all enjoyed our dishes.
Wednesday, before we left Jasper for Lake Louise, we had a nice breadfast in a well-known local bakery, called Bear Paw Bakery. Coffee and a respberry mixed white chocolate scone, hmm... Yummy. We stopped for a few time to see glacier and a few breathtaking falls on our way to Banff. Some climbing and lots of photo takings, which made my day. Stayed in a lodge by Lake Louise Village for the night.
Thursday, the day started with rains, lots of rains. I saw Lake Louise and Lake Moraine in cold rain with depressing grey sky. Our original plan of the whole day was pretty much ruined. We didn't hike up the mountain with tramway nor able to the mountains surrounding Banff because the fog or thick cloud was completely cover the entire Banff. We only went shopping in the downtown Banff village, which has lots of interesting gift shops and restaurants side by side, so at least I could get some souvenir shopping down.
Escaped from the rain, we had to say goodbye to Banff after a short visit, heading back on the highway to Kelowna, and was pretty lucky to stay in a great lodge nearby Golden. Pool table and hottub were some of those things available there. We all enjoyed the staying very much. Breadfast on the next day was delicious and probably has too many varieties to choice from. well well, can't complain on that one.
It was the first time for me to go back to Kelowna after four years. All memory flashed back to me as soon as our car cruised around the city.... read on to the next entry. :) plz leave msg if u like my travel log.
some websites which tell you more about Jasper and Banff, there are lots to done in all seasons.
August 27 Aug 25 to 27 - Calgary, AlbertaDay 1, Friday 5:30pm, arrived safely in Calgary International Airport, I was picked up by Daphne, (Deb and Jack's good friend). We saw each other quite a lot in Kelowna, and she moved to Calgary last year. Stay in her nice big house for the weekend. Deb and jack will pick me up on Sunday afternoon. We didn't see each other since I left Kelowna for hamilton 4 years ago. Time flies.
Day 2, Sat morning, got up early, left the house at 7:30am for an annual Farmer's Market in the Heritage Park. The event is to fund the childern's hospital, cancer research and the park. We arrived 30 min prior to the opening at 9am. There were lots of people brought their carts with them. By the time the gate opened, people were all rushing in to load up the carts with all kinds of fruits and vegetables. They were all sold at cheap prices with no taxes. Most of the things can be seen in the grocery store, but there were something rare, like boccoliflower which is the hybrid of broccoli and coliflower was unheard of for me. And colliflower also comes with yellow and purple colour. After that I had a nice walk in the Heritage park, which reassembled the houses, stores and life styles back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Staffs dressed in the old fashion way, and worked as servants, ranchers or shopkeepers in private houses, ranch, downtown shops and post office.
Karston, Daphne's son, brought me to the downtown Calgary to look around. Chinatown was hosting a hk festival, so we walked by to watch a few plays and got some bubble tea, which took more than an hour to deliver, really pissed us off. Saw firework competition between four country in a park, but we were late for that. 11pm, arrived at downtown Cherry Loung which played house music. We (a group of 5) danced till 2:30 pm. I could hardly lift my feet and open my eyes by then. Very tired. To sum up, Calgary doesn't look as good as Toronto, city wise. Highway system is complicated, just like Toronto. Housing is almost as expenisve as Toronto. To find a job here or not? I have to think twice now.
Day 3, Sunday, Deb and Jack and their current homestay student Vivi (from Jiangmen) should be on their way to here now. I am so excited to see them again. The best is yet to come. They are planning to spend a few hours here to chitchat with Daphne and we will head to Edmenton togather in the late afternoon. August 23 Now I am done with small town life.I won't say that the town had not a single thing to do and so boring that I wanted to hang myself by living here for a year. I was still taking its advantage of being a quite small place with a big sport field located right next to my house. A few well organized festivals had show its pride and fun to make itself so unique and unforgetable for visitors. However, there is no comparison with living back in the city where my friends are.
Now it is only one day away from getting out of here. Tomorrow is a big day of moving back to Hamilton. The day after tomorrow will be another big day to fly across Canada, for a trip in Alberta and British Columbia.
I will try to keep up my traveling journal here, and tell you where I go and what I see .... yeehaa ....:))) August
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
